Jim Unger, the funny, funny creator of the comic strip, Herman has passed away. Jim was born in London, England but emigrated to Canada in 1968. He began his cartooning career at the Mississauga Times...which is just a hop, skip and a jump from where I live. His panel, Herman was syndicated by Universal Press to 600 newspapers. It was and is an extremely funny comic. My condolences to his family and friends.

I love Herman cartoons and have several collections of them. Somehow he just always seemed to capture those bits of life that make sense because they don't actually happen but they *could*, and are therefore hilarious.
I think my all-time favourite Herman cartoon shows a man waiting to be seated at a sidewalk cafe; he's holding a broom handle with a fork taped to the end of it, and he says to the hostess, "Table for one near someone eating sausages." :)
I didn't know Mr. Unger had lived in the GTA, though! That is INCREDIBLY cool! RIP, Mr. Unger, you'll be missed.
