If you're in the area of Kenosha, Wisconsin between September 14-16, you're invited to join me and a roster of very talented cartoonists for the Kenosha Festival of Cartooning!
There's going to be a wide variety of free events to attend. You can check out the preliminary schedule by visiting the KFC blog here. More events are due to be scheduled so check back often.
I'll be discussing my career and showing a PowerPoint presentation that gives the inside scoop on influences behind selected strips, story arcs along with anecdotes, reader response and having a woman's voice on the comics page.
Make sure to visit the H.F. Johnson Gallery of Art on Thursday afternoon (Sept. 15) from 4:30-7:30 for the Gala opening reception of "One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages". I've mentioned this traveling exhibit before...it is curated by John Read, publisher of Stay Tooned magazine and features over 100 original pieces of Sunday cartoon art from over 100 syndicated comic strip cartoonists. (The gala is also free and open to the public and all cartoonists presenting at the Festival will be in attendance!)
Paul Gilligan - Pooch Cafe
Tom Richmond - Mad Magazine / President of National Cartoonists Society
Michael Jantze - The Norm, Jantze Studios
John Hambrock - The Brilliant Mind of Edison Lee
Scott Stantis - Prickly City / Editorial Cartoonist for the Chicago Tribune
Special Guest: John Read - Publisher of Stay Tooned Magazine and "One Fine Sunday in the Funny Pages" curator.
Hey there...how's your summer? What's new? I hope things are going well!
I've been busy trying to catch up on some stuff here. You know...those things that you try to accomplish but they just never seem to...actually get accomplished? I keep meaning to touch base here but somehow tomorrow turns into tomorrow turns into tomorrow. So I think I'm just going to make a decision and take a shortish hiatus.
