Yesterday, I was interviewed about the Domestic Violence story line which began this week in my strip. As mentioned in the article, I will be going to Gillian's Place in St. Catharines (women's shelter) to gain some insight about this subject.
I was hesitant to contact the shelter. I wasn't sure how they would feel about the idea of exploring the issue of Domestic Violence in a comic strip. The woman I spoke with, however, was extremely nice and seemed enthusiastic.
The development manager at South Niagara Women's Place told Jennifer Pellegrini (the Niagara Falls reporter):
"Although we don't use humour or comics to tell our stories, the most important thing is that the word gets out," Krick said. "One in four Canadian women are abused by their intimate partners. We do hope that it provides some self-awareness."
