Yesterday Newman got neutered.
We could have left him at the clinic overnight but the vet said everything was okay so we opted to bring him home. He was very subdued but happy to see us.
Newman normally has the run of the house except for the bathroom. I tried to keep him out of the upstairs livingroom but that is where I do my writing and when it's just the two of us all day, it's kind of hard to leave him isolated. He likes to come and stretch out by the couch where I sit. So. . . as I said, he pretty much has the run of the house. However, for the next 7 days we are not supposed to take him for any walks or let him climb stairs so we are keeping him in the downstairs family room with the door to our upstairs closed.
He threw up a few times last night. The vet said to expect this. He pretty much spent the evening in his cage sleeping. ( His cage door is always open and we have an old sleeping bag on the bottom . . .it's sort of a little private place he can go to when he wants. )
I went to the grocery store last night and bought some of his favourite treats ( those little marrow bones cookies) and few new ones. I also bought a big blade roast. . .part for a stew in our crock pot for dinner tonight and part for Newman this evening if he feels like eating.
Poor guy, he was shifting around when he was sitting last night. Tim winced every time Newman shifted.
He seems a little bit better this morning. He's eating a wee bit and when we take him outside he's wagging his tale but he's still pretty subdued and I'm sure a bit sore. I'm glad today is Tim's scheduled day off as Tim is Newman's favourite.
He's just come in my studio now and is sitting under my desk as I type. He likes to be under there at my feet when I'm working on the computer. I'm glad I bought the blade roast for him. *sigh*
UPDATE: By the evening, Newman was his old tail-wagging, perky self. It's difficult to keep him from bouncing around. He kept bringing his rope to us to play tug-of-war which we apologetically declined. He seems quite happy again and none the worse for wear. . .or whatever.
